The 4^th generation of the OPTIC multimode injection system is a versatile tool for the Shimadzu GC and GCMS series which increases application range and detection limits.

Wider application range for gas chromatography

In addition to the standard sampling modes the programmable OPTIC-4 can be operated as Large Volume injector, Pyrolysis or Thermal Desorption introduction system. DMI (Difficult Matrix Introduction) is another option where µ-vials filled with sample (solid or highly matrix loaded samples) can be introduced into the OPTIC-4 liner and allow direct analysis of the compounds out of the sample.
The patented low thermal mass design together with the direct resistive heating provides linear temperature range up to 600°C at rates as high as 60 °C/sec and opens the possibility to apply the OPTIC-4 for this wide range of applications. In combination with the auto sampler AOC-5000 Plus the sample introduction can be fully automated with an automatic liner exchanger (LINEX). In addition the variety of different liners supports the huge range of applications using the OPTIC-4.

Improved detection limits

By using the OPTIC-4 Injector as cold injection system also compounds that normally degrade in hot injectors e.g. thermal labile pesticides can be analyzed without difficulties. Even for low boiling point compounds precise and reproducible results can be obtained. The temperature range of the OPTIC-4 is +10 °C above RT to 600 °C (-180 °C or -50 °C to 600 °C by adding the injector cooling option with direct LN2 or CO2 cooling, respectively).
Large Volume injections improve the detection limits and can be used in all application areas where sensitivity is crucial e.g. in environmental or food analysis. The unique solvent monitor enables easy method development for Large Volume injections.
